The 8 Coolest Themed Cars

Written by: admin Friday, February 17th, 2012 .

Cars are a perfect platform for themed customization and we’re not the only ones who think so. As you can tell from the photos below, car enthusiasts have been at it for quite some time now. Although the number of awesome themed cars in the world is enormous, we’ve gathered together 8 of the coolest custom jobs we’ve ever seen. From a hotdog on wheels to video game inspired hot rods, we think you’ll like what you see.

1. The Munster Koach

The Munster Coach built by George Barris

No one can deny that the Munsters traveled in style or that they got around town in a hurry. Their souped-up and sinister looking hot rod was built by famed custom car designer George Barris. In order to fit the entire Munster family comfortably inside the Koach, Barris fashioned a super-long body out of three Model-T fords and placed it on top of an 18 foot custom frame. Equipped with a Ford Cobra engine, the Munster Koach is as mean as it looks.

2.Wienermobile

Maybe not the coolest name for a car ever, but it certainly fits this hotdog on wheels. The Oscar Meyer Wienermobile first hit the streets in 1936 to promote the Oscar Meyer brand of meats. Today there are eight active Wienermobiles driven by a select few “Hotdoggers.” Each year, 12 new Hotdoggers are selected from a pool of applicants all in their senior year of college. Those selected will then drive the Wienermobiles to college campuses in search of next year’s lucky Hotdoggers.

3. Predicta by Daryl Starbird

The Space Age had a huge influence on all forms of design in the mind-20th century and cars were no exception. In the 1950s and 60s, Daryl Starbird introduced the world to his futuristic bubble top cars. One of his most famous cars, Predicta looks like something right out of the Jestsons.

4. Landspeeder Car

Landspeeder Themed Car

There is no shortage of Star Wars-themed cars (or anything for that matter), but this replica Landspeeder is a real standout. It was first spotted in the mid-1980s when Coca-Cola used it as a promotional vehicle. Today, however, the Landspeeder doesn’t see a whole lot of time on the road. In the mid-1990s it was donated to the Cedar Grove Police Department in Florida, where it currently resides and awaits restoration.

5. Real Mario Karts

Anyone who has ever played Nintendo’s Mario Kart has probably wished that there existed a real-life version of the game. Last year, Nintendo brought that dream one step closer to reality when it unveiled a series of life-sized Mario Karts at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Nintendo hired West Coast Customs to build fully functional prototypes including Mario’s classic red cart, a Bumblebee cart, and Luigi’s cart (pictured above).

6. Pac-Man Car

Here’s another video game inspired car for all the lovers of vintage arcade games out there. By the looks of it, this Pac-Man hot rod would have no trouble keeping up with any number of blinking ghosts.

7. Justin Bieber’s Batman-Themed Cadillac

What would you do if you were young, rich, and famous? Get yourself a Batmobile, right? Well, that’s exactly what teen pop-icon Justin Bieber decided to do. His ride isn’t an exact replica of a particular Batmobile model, but it is a pretty luxurious Cadillac themed after the dark night’s famous set of wheels. Even though the Cadillac says “Batmobile” across the rear and sports the Batman logo, none of that has made Bieber immune to traffic violations as photos across the web have confirmed.

8. Tron Car

Tron-Themed Audi R8 by West Coast Customs

Tron is another no-brainer for custom car designers. Neon blue circuitry will make anything look cool (like this frozen hotel room at the IceHotel). Of course, you can’t really go wrong if you’re starting out with an Audi R8. West Coast Customs has added the instantly recognizable Tron neon blue in all the right places and mirror finish over the entire body. While it looks awesome in the showroom, it just might be too much to handle under a bright sun.
