The Children’s Playground in Takino Hillside Park, located in Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido, Japan, is a magical place inspired by the natural world that provides a safe and engaging space for children to explore. Designed as a five-stage experience, the first “step” releases children from their mundane urban jungle and prepares them for an experience in the wild. The rainbow next dome was designed by fabric artist Toshiko Macadam and principal designer Fumiaki Takano; inspired by ant hives, which were measured and recreated using computer imaging software, this magical room gives children a rare glimpse into this complex animal society.
