If you haven’t already, make sure Nashville is on your entertainment radar. We recently told you about a new Dollywood theme park coming to Nashville in 2014, and today we’d like to tell you about another exciting attraction opening this summer in “Music City.” As the city’s nickname suggests, music is an important part of Nashville’s history, particularly country music. For that reason, Nashville has been selected as the site for a new Johnny Cash museum.

This new museum dedicated to the life and legend of the “Man in Black” will be opened by Cash’s lifelong friend, Bill Miller, and members of the Cash family, including Johnny and June’s son, John Carter Cash. Miller, along with the Cash family, revealed plans for the 18,000 square foot museum at a press conference in Nashville just a little over a week ago. The driving force behind the museum is Bill Miller, who is the museum’s founder and currently owns one of the largest collections of Johnny Cash memorabilia. According to Miller, “It has been a lifelong dream of mine to showcase Johnny Cash’s life and career in a world-class exhibit for all his fans from around the world to enjoy.” The announcement of the museum came just days before what would have been Cash’s 80th birthday on February 26th.

The museum will be located just off of downtown Nashville’s main tourist drag and within a block of the Country Music Hall of Fame. $7 million will be invested in transforming a former upholstery store into the most comprehensive tribute to Cash’s life and music ever built. In addition to the memorabilia contributed by Miller and the Cash family, the museum will feature interactive exhibits and a 250-seat auditorium.

In a video interview you can watch over at The Tennessean, John Carter Cash talks about plans for the museum’s layout and design. One of the goals of the museum is to take visitors on a journey through Cash’s life and convey to them what experiences shaped the man behind the museum. One exhibit mentioned that will serve this purpose is a replica of a section of the house that Johnny Cash grew up in.

For John Carter Cash, this museum is his opportunity to share the qualities in his parents that he looked up to with the world: “My father and mother had a way through honesty and truth of spirit. It’s not about the glamour or about making it for Nashville. This is about spreading their spirit.” (Tennessean)
