It’s only been a few months since Legoland Florida opened, but they’ve already broke ground on an exciting new section. By this May, we can expect to see visitors sliding and splashing at the new Legoland Water Park. Like the Legoland theme park, this new water park will be geared towards children ages 2-12, but family members of any age can expect to have a blast. There will be numerous fun and entertaining ways for everyone in the family to cool down on a hot Florida day, including a lazy river, slides, a wave pool, and much more.
You may recall from our previous article on Legoland Florida that the Lego-themed park was built on the grounds of the defunct Cypress Gardens. The historic theme park included a water park, called Splash Island, much of which is being reused in the Legoland Water Park. Of course, many of the existing water park features will receive makeovers to fit the Lego theme.
The water park will feature familiar rides and experiences with an added Lego twist. The Legoland lazy river is called Build-A-Raft River and will allow guests to create custom rafts while floating downstream. Each guest will start with a clear plastic tube, but as they make their way along the river they can collect large rubber Lego bricks and add them to their watercraft. With a little imagination, you can transform your boring tube into a pirate ship, floating fortress, sail boat, or anything else you can think up.
The Legoland experience is designed to engage the guest’s creative side as much as possible. Thus it is no surprise to find an attraction called Imagination Station in the new water park. Imagination Station sits in front of the wave pool and provides a place for kids to experiment with water behavior. At the station they will build dams and canals with Lego bricks, then open the floodgates to test their designs against a rush of water. There is also a musical element at the imagination station. Kids will conduct a symphony of water jets, each corresponding with a different musical tone, just as Mickey does in Fantasia.
The wave pool will be pretty mellow so that it can be enjoyed by guests of all sizes. However, for the tiniest lego-maniacs, Duplo Splash Safari features a very shallow pool equipped with squirting Duplo animals.
If you are hoping to make a big splash, you’ll find opportunity to do so at the back of the park where the bigger slides and the Joker Soaker playground are located. The tallest slide structure at Legoland Water park will be Splash Out, with three slides to choose from and a steep 60-foot plunge into a deep pool. You can also expect to get thoroughly soaked at the Joker Soaker, an interactive playground with slides going every which way. At the top of the Joker Soaker tower, a 300-gallon bucket will overturn randomly throughout the day dousing everyone on the playground.
Legoland Water Park will be accessible through the main park and will cost an additional $12 on top of the regular park admission. From the looks of things so far, it will be worth every penny.
