David Tallichet, a Texan entrepreneur, has been called the father of the themed restaurant; in the 1960's, he began decorating Southern California restaurants as Polynesian islands, New England fishing villages and French farmhouses. Since then, period bars, medieval banquets and futuristic eateries have been popular in the U.S. and across the world.
